What are you Thankful for?

It’s Thanksgiving eve, and people around the country are preparing for their time with the people they are thankful for. Tomorrow many of us will be watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade, reading the ads for their venture and plan of action on Black Friday, Playing football in our backyards and of course EATING!!! 🙂 This is such a special time of year where we get to be with people we love! Please share with us either what you are thankful for this year, or a family tradition…..These types of stories warm peoples heart and remind us all what this special holiday is really about!

Donating Blood !

08 Sep 2011 Leave a comment

On my soapbox again! If it’s not about some great musician, art, or cleaning up the desert, it’s going to be about something VERY IMPORTANT -giving blood !! There is ALWAYS a critical shortage of blood. Only about 15% of the population give blood, even less than that give REGULARLY. If you are able, please do it. I donate at the Antelope Valley Hospital at their blood donor center every 56 days. It is a lovely facility with the nicest people that run it. The nurses are all fabulous and treat everyone with the utmost kindness. The benefit of giving at A.V. Hospital is that the blood stays here in the Antelope Valley and is used to treat local citizens first. I personally have given over 12 gallons of blood, one pint at a time.
Blood cannot be manufactured, only drawn out of people that are willing to give it. Then, it is processed and filtered and all those other things they do before it is used to SAVE LIVES. You would be surprised at the medications that you can be taking and still give blood, so don’t let the thinking of ” Well, I take this and that so I can’t give blood” stop you ! A simple phone call to the center (949-5622) and they will tell you if you are able. Of course, there are restrictions and you can find out those too. They are open Tues & Thurs. 9 am to 6 pm, Wed 7 am to 4pm, 1st and 3rd Sat of every month 8 am to 1 pm.
The whole process takes about an hour out of your busy day. Think of all the people you can help in this simple way.

Gallery 839 at The Animation Guild

On Friday night, my husband and I went to an art show at this wonderful gallery in Burbank. It featured work by 4 artists: Michael Cedeno, John Cataldi, Danielle Powers, and Russell Calabrese.

I am proud to say, I bought a Cedeno to add to my always growing art collection. I love this man’s work. He is truly one of my favorites. The woman below is gorgeous, don’t you think? I love her pose and gracefulness. I love the pencil

or rather, charcoal strokes. Michael has a real command of his abilities. Being that he has been a supervising directing animator and had worked at Disney for 27 years, this piece makes me think of Tinkerbell, in the nude! Something about her face makes me think that. Of course, most guys probably aren’t looking at her face. HA!  I look at all parts of this beautiful woman and it actually makes me feel younger. I love the shape, curves, and even the stretching makes me FEEL.

If money were no object, I would have walked out owning a whole wall of his works. Another I loved was this : the Colorado St. Bridge. I spent a large part of my youth riding over this bridge, with my father. We would be going to the one and only Standard Brands in those days. I loved going there with him.

In my childhood, we would always go to Pasadena from Eagle Rock to shop at various places. This evokes memories of that.

I do, however, own a painting of this same fantastic bridge done by Ken Kaylor. He’s another of those extremely talented artists that I know. In fact, Ken and Mike are the best of buddies and go painting together when they can.

It was a fun time with fun people. If you have the chance, you should go. http://animationguild.org. The show runs  through Sept.30th.

We are happy this is ours!

Missing Ben

Don’t get me wrong. I’m old enough to be his mother. Getting to know this young man has been just a wonderful experience. He has helped me tremendously in the world of socialnomics and has been very patient and kind. With young people like him in this world, it gives me a glimmer of hope for the future of  the world of my children as well! He deserves the best that life has to offer!
